Sunday
Update from Hangtown
May 23, 2005
Report and
photos by Allison Kennedy

Alessi: Mike Alessi showed he has the speed to
lead the pack in the second 125 moto. Alessi lead
until the final corner, when he and Langston collided
and both went down. Alessi couldn't restart his
KTM while Langston picked it up and crossed the
line for the moto win and the overall. |
 |
McGourty: McGourty had a rough go in the 125 class too. Clearly he has the speed to run up front, as he showed with his second place finish in the LCQ. While he rode strong in the LCQ, he also took a handlebar to the chest. Feeling the effects, McGourty had to pull off during the first 125 moto and opted not to ride the second moto. McGourty was frustrated with his results and will be looking to better them next weekend. He plans to ride the AMA nationals until he heads north to Canada.

Langston: Langston was on fire all day. His second
moto charge was one for the record books. He caught
Alessi in the dying seconds of the moto and took
the overall win. But rumour has it he injured his
ankle in the crash. |
 |
JSR: Lookout Canadian 250 Nationals...here comes
JSR. JSR's 10th overall doesn't speak about how
well he was riding at Hangtown. In the first 250
moto, Roy was running in the top five and was keeping
pace with Chad Reed in the early laps. A crash sent
him outside the top 20, but he worked his way back
up to 14th. Second moto, he rode a strong race to
finish 10th. JSR is flying back to Florida to ride
with RC this week and hopes to race Mount Morris
next weekend. |
|
Klatt: The cards were stacked against Klatt from the first gate drop Sunday. Klatt got hit off the start of his qualifier and lost his rear brake. The hilly Hangtown track left him with few options, he had to pull off without completing a lap. In the LCQ, Klatt had the far outside gate pic, leaving him with few options for a start. Taking only the top five riders, Dusty watched his Hangtown hopes disappear. Don't worry, it won't keep Klatt down for long. He's motivated and ready to head home and train even harder for Mission. It wasn't the AMA debut he was hoping for but if anything it's made it that much clearer what he needs to do to get to the top.

Carmichael: It looks like it's going to be another
long season for the competition in the 250 class.
RC rode strong and smart to take 1-1 wins and the
overall. |
 |
Huffman went 33-14 for 19th
overall. |
|
Is another perfect season
looming?
