By not allowing foreign riders to run the 125 class at the Montreal Supercross, we’re guaranteed not only a Canadian win, but also some of the best racing of the year. Last year, Blackfoot Honda’s Dusty Klatt grabbed the win over Colton Facciotti and Marco Dubé, but with Klatt out of the picture, a handful of riders had a great chance at winning the event. Richmond Kawasaki’s Facciotti was the one to come out on top, beating Marco Dubé, Mitch Cooke, Ryan Lockhart and Kyle Beaton—in that order. We spoke with the 17-year-old BC native to find out his thoughts on his first big win in la belle province.
RXC: Congratulations on your big win!
Colton Facciotti: Thanks.
I saw you revving your bike up beside your mechanic Ian Woods, you looked pretty stoked.
Yeah it was pretty much my first big win. I was pretty happy.
Last year you finished second to Klatt, did you feel like you could win it this year?
Coming into the race I knew I could win it, I just focused on getting a good start and focused on being consistent every lap.
You were riding the 2006 KX 250F. Other than Walton, have you spent much time on it?
Actually, I just got my practice bike a week before Montreal. But yeah, that bike works awesome.
Pat O’Conner was saying those bike were pretty much just stock.
Just bars and a pipe, that’s it.
I spoke with Ron Ashley today, and he mentioned he gave you some words of advice.
Yeah he gave me a couple of words before Moncton. And he gave me a little pep talk before the main [laughs] and it worked pretty good I think.
What did he tell you?
He told me to go out there and pin it, pretty much.

Facciotti banged bars with Kyle Beaton early in the race, but fortunately neither rider went down. |
Will we see you at the Toronto AX this weekend?
Yep, I’m going to do all of Hellam’s series. Then I’m not too sure what’s going on after that.
Will you be racing the World Supercross rounds?
I’m not 100 percent sure, but pretty sure.
What about U.S. Supercross, do you know if you will be racing it at all?
I have no idea, haven’t gotten into that.
Well you should do well in the Canadian AX series, you will definitely have a good shot at winning the title.
Yeah that’s my goal, anyways.
Going back to the Montreal SX, do you think they should open up the 125 class to American riders?
I think it would be kind of cool to have the Americans come up and battle with us. But this year I didn’t think there were that many fast guys, but it makes it good, it’s still good racing. It’s definitely tough for Canadian guys because the American riders have more chances to ride supercross.
Okay Colt, I let you get going and we’ll see you in TO.
Thanks, talk to you later.
