SEPTEMBER 7, 2005
By Brett Dailey
For those who don’t know yet, I have recently made the move to Nova Scotia. My wife landed an excellent teaching position at Acadia University and I can do my work from pretty much anywhere so we decided to make the move after Walton. When I arrived, I quickly checked the Atlantic schedule to take in some racing and meet some new friends and, as luck would have it, the race was right in my backyard—Kingston!
The Kingston track has a nice serpentine layout with sandy dirt and a few clay based jumps. They make use of a large tunnel jump to allow spectators into the infield to watch the racing—a feature that many tracks lack these days. Well, the spectator friendly layout must be working because there were more people there to watch the races than I have seen at a few nationals. Kudos!

Want to see Kevin Windham in action but you can't afford a trip to a U.S. national? Come to Atlantic Canada and watch Mitch Cooke! Lucky Johnny Montes was at Kingston to keep Cooke honest--he almost lapped third place in the GP Pro class. |
Johnny Montes won the 125 Pro class easily and stayed close to Cooke in the 250 motos. Both riders will be at the Montreal SX on October 1st. |
Kyle Ledwidge finished second overall in the 125 Pro class and third in the 250 class. |
Adam Turner finished 5-4 in the 250 Pro class on one of the trickest YZ250s I have seen this year. |
Josh Bettle seems to have a handle on the Junior class. He swept the 125 and GP classes. |
Paul Wentzell won the second 250 Junior moto but a seventh in the first moto dropped him to second overall behind Brandon Walsh. |
Here's a kid to watch in the future. Charlie Smith's younger brother, Levi, is ripping up the 80cc and Supermini classes. He tied for third place in the 80cc 12-16 class at Walton with Kyle Ward and Dan Pilon. Look for him on big bikes next season. |
Levi's older brother Charlie took a nasty spill in the 125 Pro moto that left him with a limp and a few battle wounds on his forehead. He's okay and will be back for Fox Hollow on the 17th. |
Davey Fraser (171) and Walton's +40 Champ, Glen Hoar had a good battle in the GP Pro class. Fraser crashed and made a valiant effort to catch him again before the end of the moto--he made the pass stick this time. |
Lots of successful Walton racers out here! Five time Ladies champ, Heidi Cooke won the Ladies class and battled it out with the men in the +25 class. I better get into shape! |
The best class of the day by far was the 125 Intermediate class. New Intermediate rider Zach Heydeman (614) battled back and forth with Shane Elliott, Tyler Graham and Dan MacLean all moto with Atlantic Yamaha's Heydeman coming out on top. |
In ATV Pro action, Brentley Pirri (37) won both motos. Randy Mollins (142) finished 2-2. |
Speed seems to run in the bloodlines out here. While Ryan Lockhart was mixing it up at the Steel City AMA National, his younger brother Brad was at home taking the win in the 80cc 7-11 class. |
It doesn't throw off as much water as Gopher Dunes' new system but Kingston features a nice watering system to keep the sand moist. |
Yet another sibling combo, Davey Fraser's younger brother Mitchell went 7-6 in the 60cc class. |
The 60cc winner was David Strang who also went 4-4 in the 80cc 7-11 class. |

Some carnage in the ladies class... |
Nicholas Leblanc finished 5-3 in the 80cc 12-16 class. Leblanc was not the only #259 on a Kawasaki at Kingston ... the other rider was James Stewart ... and he finshed third in the GP Beginner class. Guess RC has really wreaked havoc on his confidence. |

Glen Hoar counts his winnings and tries to decide whether it will be Tim Hortons or McDonalds on the way home... |

Here is the infamous Derick Scott who showed up for the Riverglade National on a 1981 YZ250. |

see you at the races... |
