Klatt Expected to Clinch MX2 Title This Weekend in Regina

--press release--

After totally dominating the first three rounds of the 125cc MX2 West Championship, Dusty Klatt is expected to clinch the title at Round 4 of the points chase, this Sunday, in Regina, SK. The Vancouver Islander goes into the final round of the championship with a total of 147 points, 32 more than 2nd place Jeff Northrop, who tallies four more points than 3rd place Kyle Beaton.

While the top three, Klatt (Team Honda Canada Blackfoot Fox Racing), Northrop (Richmond Racing Kawasaki) and Beaton (Yamaha Motor Canada), are running almost shoulder to shoulder in the title hunt, with the latter two mathematically still in contention for the title, the rest of the field is neck-in-neck. Final rankings are up for grabs and bound to change dramatically by the end of the last MX2 moto of the series at Regina Moto Valley.

Less than 30 points separate 4th place Team Faith Yamaha mounted Kevin Johnson from Team Suzuki OTSFF Motorsports’ Jake Weimer, who holds down 11th place. Sandwiched in between are Richmond Racing Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier in 5th; Pacific Yamaha’s Shane Bess in 6th; Morgan Racing Yamaha’s Erick Vallejo in 7th; Richmond Racing’s Colton Facciotti in 8th; Yamaha privateer Tony Sherman in 9th; and Swanson Yamaha Racing’s Nate Tiearney in 10th.

Klatt’s Blackfoot teammate Jean Sebastien Roy, the undisputed king of the 250cc MX1 Championship wars, will be on the gas to chalk up his fourth consecutive win of the season and keep stretching his points lead in the nine-round series. With 156 points on the board, Roy currently holds a 47 points deficit over 2nd place Craig Decker (Morgan Racing Yamaha). Damon Huffman, who trails Decker by four points, is on the verge of tucking himself into 2nd place behind his teammate Roy. Once Huffman clears this task, which few insiders doubt he won’t, Blackfoot Racing will more than likely produce another 1-2 punch in the MX1 Championship this season.

Saskatchewan’s own Blair Morgan (Morgan Racing Yamaha), currently ranked 8th in the premier 250cc class points chase, will be looking for a podium finish this weekend in his home province national. The multi-time champion, still recovering from injuries sustained in the ’05 WSA Snocross Championship, won the event in 2001. He carded 9th last year.

Although Roy is expected to steamroll his way to another victory, he may start facing some stiffer competition as the CMRC Canadian Motocross Championships Tour starts heading east. Last Sunday, in Calgary, Suzuki OTSFF’s Gavin Gracyk, who carded 2-2 motos for 2nd overall, showed he’s got the speed to run with the four-time champ. Decker and Morgan should never be underestimated and Huffman is bound to offer some surprises. And let’s not forget Klatt, who beat Roy in two motos last season and in the first moto of Round 2 this year in Mission.

Whatever the case, after the uncooperative weather in Mission, Nanaimo and Calgary, everyone is praying that this weekend will prove to be the first rain and mud-free weekend of the season.
