MMA: Photo Report from Baldur Raceway

Round one of the MMA Fall Provincial Championship series brought to you by Royal Distributing was a week of firsts. It was the first race of the Fall Provincial Championship, which was being hosted by the brand new Baldur Raceway, who were promoting their first ever MMA event. In keeping with that theme, this report will feature racers making their first ever appearance in an MMA race report.

Matt Anseeuw has made a big leap forward in speed of late and it’s starting to show in his results.   Anseeuw won four motos in Baldur with a perfect 1-1 day in the Youth B and MX-3 Junior classes on his way to the overall victories.  Anseeuw also picked up second spot in the MX-2 Junior class with a 2-2 ride.

Transcanada Motorsports Connor Kroeker has been quietly moving up the Pro results this season.   Kroeker put in a 5-4 day in the MX-2 Pro class for fourth overall.  In the Youth class he battled to 7-8 finishes for seventh overall.

It would appear the Van Der Meer Greenhouses sprout MX racers as well as bedding plants.  Tessa Van Der Meer is the latest Van Der Meer to pass through the 50cc Class.  Van Der Meer rode consistently with 4-4 finishes for fourth overall.

Now in his second season racing in the MMA, Austin Weidenhamer is making large gains each week.  Weidenhamer’s 12-12 moto finishes left him just outside the 85cc 7-11 top ten with eleventh overall.

It’s only fitting in a week of firsts that Jeremy Herrmann makes the report. This is the first time I’ve seen him at an MMA event and he went 1-1 for first overall in the MX-1 Beginner class.

After missing a few rounds early in the season when her off-season engine rebuild turned into an early season project, Shauna Dauk has returned.  The emergency room nurse left Baldur with a top five finish in the Ladies class after a pair of fifth place moto finishes gave her fifth overall.

Westside Honda’s Olaf Rohm took third overall in the Vet Junior class along with fifth overall in the 40+B class.

James Freudenberg grabbed a top ten in the Supermini class with 10-11 finishes for tenth overall.

4-4 for fourth overall was Dawson Hole’s day in the 50cc 7-8 class.

Darwyn Hoeppner used a strong second moto to break a three-way tie and grab the last step on the podium.  Hoeppner’s 5-3 finishes give him the podium spot ahead of the 3-5 ride of Jaret Enns and the 7-2 moto scores of Casey Peters.

Jason Loewen made one of his infrequent appearances this week. The Intermediate rider finished in the top five in MX-2 Intermediate going 7-5 for fifth overall. The 25+ class was even more kind to Loewen when his 2-2 was good for the second step on the box.

Carnduff Saskatchewan’s Darrian White showed up in Baldur and left with fifth overall in the 65cc 10-11 class with 7-5 moto finishes.

Jordan Gledhill is getting the hang of that clutch pretty quick after a few impressive loop outs.  Gledhill charged back to 4-3 finishes for third overall in the 65cc 7-9 class.

Jordan Boychuk put up a pair of third place finishes in the MX-1 Junior class, good for the second step on the box on the day.

Braden Sawatsky took eighth overall in the 85cc 12-16 class with 9-8 finishes.

Ron Peters seems to have found another gear in 2008.  Peter’s had an issue in the second MX-1 Intermediate moto but his 3-12 day was still good for sixth overall.

Duane Beischer went 4-5 for fifth overall in the 40+ class and 11-9 for ninth overall in the Vet Master class.

I believe it's this guy's first MMA photo report appearance as well! See you at the races…
