JULY 16, 2008
The RTR performance KTM race team headed out to Nanaimo on Thursday July 10th, we just made the last ferry heading to Nanaimo Nationals. Just got great news that next year's BC national will be in our home town of Kamloops.
Saturday morning was looking good for practice with all riders feeling positive for the weekend to come. The day was hot and dusty but our lap times in practice were excellent. Foster was asked to wear the helmet cam in the pro practice on Saturday. They should have some interesting footage of this difficult rocky track.
Up bright and early as usual on Sunday morning, on the track by 7am and ready to go. It showed that we were prepared with Foster pulling a 6th fastest time in the first qualifier, proving that our RTR Performance/Valley Speed engines were working with our riders to help get them out front and really put down some good fast laps.
This gives us an excellent gate pick for the first moto. Millar qualified 25th and Haws making it in at 28th.
With all riders qualified for the main, we were ready to race! The first moto started out really good with all three riders getting a decent start and charging hard. Foster was running 9th when I noticed his riding style was looking very loose. As he passed me I could see him struggling with a flat tire with each lap it was harder and harder to keep the bike under control.
Kris did a fantastic job of keeping the bike on 2 wheels and finishing the
moto with a respectful 25th place. Millar 16th and Haws in 29th. That first moto had a total of 9 punctured tires on the hard, sharp shale rock of The Wastelands.
The second moto was looking good with everyone fresh and Rob Crawford ready to go as tire changer on the line if needed, fortunately, it was not needed in this moto as all of the RTR bikes made it through the whole moto without another flat. This moto was a little tougher with all 3 riders getting off to a mid pack start.
Foster again was looking good and working his way into the top ten when he slid out in a dry slick corner. After 1 more fall in the moto he finally settled in at 16th. Millar, after battling with his teammate Foster, fell back a spot and finished in 18th position with Haws coming in at 25th overall.
The event entries were full with 62 riders all trying to make it into the main event. RTR Performance would like to thank all of our sponsors:
