Richmond Racing Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto gapped much of the field in the first MX2 moto in rain soaked Calgary.  Villopoto grabbed the holeshot, while current class leader Dusty Klatt spun off the line and suffered a mid-pack start.  Villopoto's teammates, Jeff Northrop and Teddy Maier joined him up front until Klatt made his way throught the pack and changed up the front running order. After Maier made a pass on Northrop for second, Klatt passed Northrop and started moving up on Maier at the checkers. Villopoto won the moto with a substantial lead.
