The latest update from our French Canadian friend
Guy Giroux (centre)
After last weekend, official press release... This week I'm going back to my original way, short and easy!!! I have to keep working hard on those reports, I'm getting more love than ever with those, the guys from RacerX have been putting my stuff live on the web site a couple of times this year already.... Thanks Brett, and Dan !! I almost reached the rock star status...
So here it is... this week’s race was in St-michel-des-saints, a good 150 km up north, and uphill in tight road... After thinking a good 5 minutes, I decided I was gonna drive up on Sunday morning, old school way...pick up truck style!!! What’s wrong with a pick up.... I've done a world championship before in the back of a pick up truck!!! So instead of fighting bugs, and flies all night on Saturday, I went to ride my TRIAL to relax.... It was so cool chilling out on the rocks, listening to my Ipod in my helmet (Don’t worry I don’t wear spandex or open face helmet to ride that thing...)
So the alarm went off a 6:00am, loaded my 2 bikes and tents, and off I went. Got there just in time to watch the morning race, unloaded my race bike and sat on my tailgate drinking water... Everything was so relax, no pressure, it just felt great, I knew my bike was gonna run great, after last week’s termination of the jetting jerk... I was ready!!!
Got on the start feeling really confident, got a bad start again, and since a long time ago ... something bad happened to me!!! I got roosted in the mud...yarkkkk not once twice... anyway, I worked my way to second, and the leader was riding really good, and me really bad... slipping everywhere on roots, stalling my bike 2-3 times, even crashing twice.... I finished the first lap following Guillaume and his Husky, second lap in, I put in a little charge, got the lead, but kept making mistakes.... Guillaume passed me back, and even opened a little 10 sec lead on me.... But I stayed really cool, by the end of lap two I stopped at the scan, adjusted my idle, to stop stalling... my arm pump were gone... it was now time to work!!! After just a few curves, my whole riding had changed... I was finally riding, not just enjoying the scenery...
Got back to the leader quickly, passed him, and opened a 30 second gap right there in half a lap. As my crew signal me to stop for fuel, I kept going as I knew I was finally riding good, and had plenty of gas for another lap... After that lap when I got to the pit, I had opened a 2min lead, my refuel was lightning fast, I wasn’t finished drinking and they were yelling at me to go.....
Kept going fast, and I was feeling great, it was a good training, as I was again testing my end of race stamina...which is great, I won by close to a 3 min lead... except for a few calf cramps "stupid short legs"… the only pain I was feeling was on my butt!!!!!!!!!!!!! The race track was really tight, making standing up real hard, so 2:35 hrs of rubbing on the anti slip seat cover.... you get the idea!!! BUTT BLISTERSSS ouch....
After reviewing my race, one thing comes to mind.... I wont be able to do the whole season on the same tires. As cheap as I am, I've been on the same rubbbers since the last 3 rounds. I think I will have to spend and buy a new set..... Or if anybody is interested, I could trade a trophy for rubbers????
Next race is in two weeks, which will be a triple header, enduro, extreme-cross, and enduro-cross, probably on the most important race weekend of the year since three championships will be contested.
On another note, I have a new gig going on, I'm now a personal trainer, I'm training a young MXer, last week was spent on a bicycle, MTB, and BMX. This week we will spend more time on the bike....just what I needed, getting paid to train!
Not much pics again as tiger, chickened out again....
Next week end is "speedo" time, as I will try and get some boat action to relax a little bit..
Until the next round have fun, I know I will!!!!!!!!!!!
