A local club here in BC is in jeopardy. Port Alberni which has been running races since the early 80's is facing opposition from locals, although the track isn't even in in the city. There is going to be a meeting with the city in the next week to decide the fate of the club, Port Alberni is scheduled to hold the 08 BC provincials.
As all MXer's know there are so many positives to MX and the local club is looking for support in letters to take to the city to help show the positive effect MX has on all participants and even the economy of the town. I haven't raced for many years but I am saddened by the fact that my son
whom is 14 months old will not have the same opportunities as me with a local track to ride on. Also the hundres of families who dedicate their lives to this sport losing a great place to ride on the island here would be ashame.
The executives are looking for supporting letters to take to a public
city meeting in hopes of saving the club. The man involved in this
dispute has been protesting MX since the early 90's and associates
anyone on a bike, trike or quad riding on roads nearby and trails in
the area as an mxer. email myrna at pm_racing@telus.net
with any help the members here can provide for the islands longest club
in existence. WE are all ambassadors of the sport no profanity or
negative comments just write letters showing why MX is such a good
sport.
