Calgary Track Update

Well the rain in Calgary has subsided for the moment. Despite some 14 straight days of rain, the high elevation and wind and a lot of pumping by the Wild Rose Club have combined to make the track look pretty good for the weekend. Wednesday night the club was busy working on the track, kids were racing on the peewee track and the CMRC's Joe Borda was hosing down the trailer. Club members were painting the fences with a fresh white coat and things seemed to be gearing up nicely for the weekend. Track workers said the rain had actually been quite good for the track, with moisture sinking down deep into the soil. The flooding never really covered the actual track but rather the low lying areas alongside the track, posing a hazard in that respect. There is very little water around now. The track itself hasn't been touched but track workers said it would be tilled on Thursday or Friday. The forecast in Calgary is calling for some rain beginning Thursday and continuing through Sunday, but it's early yet ... and I'm ... optimistic. So just thought I'd pass these shots along since the last ones on the site weren't too encouraging. See you at the races...

Nice touch - fresh paint for the spectators.

Yes that's actually dust.

Who knew Dusty Klatt would be practicing Wednesday night?

There is the odd low lying puddle around.

Guess who's back? Privateer Adam Smith is in town.
