Hype: The Highs and Lows of Canadian Motocross

Time to ride!
For a while there, we didn’t think winter was ever going to end. Fortunately, just as the supercross circus was leaving town, so did the snow and cool temperatures. Moto-fever is now infecting the nation. Gopher Dunes opened its doors last weekend and their first race kicks off this Sunday; the BC season has already started with races in Mission and Kamloops; the Blackfoot Motosports Park has been open for weeks now; and the East Coast crew has been hitting up Pleasant Valley, Clyde River, and other local practice tracks. If you haven’t done so already, dust off your steed, clean an air filter, and go riding!

Late Addition
Just as teams were finalizing their `08 deals, Suzuki/OTSFF/Rockstar made a last minute transaction, bringing on Brady Sheren. As an associate rider through Holeshot Racing in Langley, BC, Sheren will run OTSFF’s colours in the MX1 national series. Can Sheren hold his own against the big boys, like Facciotti, Klatt, Keast, and Morgan? We can’t wait to find out!

Opportunity Knocks
It’s been a long, hard road for Gavin Gracyk, but the privateer hero is finally getting a break. After finishing ninth overall in the AMA Motocross championships, and putting in top-10 results with Red Bull/Troy Lee Designs Honda in West Coast Supercross, Gracyk has signed on with Gibbs Racing/Toyota/Yamaha for outdoors. Congrats, Gavin!

Another Chance
For those who missed Toronto, or would like to see another Monster Energy Supercross (and live relatively close), head on over to Ford Field in downtown Detroit this Saturday. Canadians Dusty Klatt and Tyler Medaglia will be in the mix, and it’s a great opportunity to watch the Lites championship battle between Ryan Villopoto and Trey Canard.

On The Rebound
After a dismal performance in Toronto, Cernic’s Kawasaki’s Dusty Klatt put together a respectable night in Dallas. He started the evening with a sixth in his heat race (his best qualifying finish yet), and then actually raced with some guys before finishing 16th in the main event. His teammate, Jeff Gibson, had a decent night as well, winning the LCQ and finishing 18th in the final.

Auburn Hills
Auburn Hills is the latest victim in the ongoing saga of tracks being shut down. Like every casualty, Auburn is facing zoning issues and uncooperative neighbors. With its GP-style layout, rolling hills, and loamy soil, Auburn was the centerpiece of the Southwestern Ontario circuit—and should really have a place on the national schedule. Hopefully, everything works out, and we see Tom Bitz’ facility on the fall schedule.
