Hype: The Highs and Lows of Canadian Motocross

Campbell River Crusher
It’s “aboot” time we saw some flashes of brilliance from Cernic’s Kawasaki’s Dusty Klatt. After qualifying for his first race in Houston, Klatt was struck with the flu and failed to make the next two main events in Atlanta and Indianapolis. In the deep Daytona waters, Klatt bounced back. He qualified 19th (his best yet), holeshot his heat race and led for two laps until his bike got stuck, won the LCQ, and ran fourth in the main event before falling back to 13th after going down. Can the Crusher carry this momentum to a dry track? We’ll find out this weekend in Minneapolis!

Marsack the Mudder
Bad Boy Power Drinks Honda’s Jacob Marsack is a mud rider. While he’s not the fastest 450 rider on the tour, he definitely takes advantage of rain, mud, sleet, and what ever else mother nature tosses at supercross to gain points—and podium finishes. In the San Francisco slop, Marsack rode to a fourth-place finish; he bested that in Daytona with a third-place for his first ever podium. Marsack is now 14th in points. Good job, Jacob!

Canadian Cowboys
This week is the annual AMA Parts Unlimited Spring Classic in Lake Whitney, Texas, and, once again, we have a strong showing of Canadian kids in the mix. Some of the names we’ve spotted on the entry list are Dylan Kaelin, Jared Petruska, John Pauk, Cole Thompson, Brandon Phinney, and Dean Wilson. For a complete list of entries, click here.

Toronto Supercross
Are you ready for supercross?!? We sure are! It feels like forever since we’ve been at the races, and we can’t wait to see Reed, Millsaps, Windham, Hill, Vuillemin, Klatt, Carpenter, Thomas, Short, Ramsey, and the rest of the Supercross gang battle on Canadian soil.

Oh, and how can we forget our own riders lining up for the Lites class. So far, Tyler and Jeremy Medaglia, Kyle Keast, Kyle Beaton, Pierce Chamberlain, Broc Shury, Ryan Lockhart, and Brady Sheren have signed up. Also, for those not having to jump triples or skim whoops in Toronto, be sure to stop by the Racer X Canada Pre-Race Party at The Loose Moose on Friday night!

Lightning Bolt Colt
Colton Facciotti didn’t go to Daytona to set the world on fire, or open any eyes. He said before, and after the race, his main goal was to qualify for the night show to retain his eligibility for supercross in 2009. It would have been interesting to see how the Team Toyota Yamaha Canada/ BlackfootDirect.com/ Fox Racing rider finished, had he raced his heat races or the main. He qualified 24th, right behind Jeff Gibson. 2009 A1?

Deal or No Deal
While Ryan Lockhart has signed on with KTM, and Leading Edge Kawasaki is fielding an MX2 team, guys like Simon Homans, Kyle Beaton, Chuck Mesley, Andrew Belin, and Pierce Chamberlain, are still searching for support. Have a bike? Some fuel? A hug? Then pass it along to one of these talented riders.
