Whenever an American rider makes their first trip north to race the Canadian Nationals, they always describe the experience the same way. They say our series is a more laid back, relaxed version of the U.S. Nationals; that while things are competitive on the track, the atmosphere is friendly in the pits. Here, on a Saturday afternoon at the Calgary National, Chuck Mesley and Ted Chatterson bring the legendary Machine Racing wash-bay fight club to the woodchips of the Calgary pits. Chatterson was no match for Mesley, who went straight for the head every shot, causing Chatterson to turtle fairly quickly. The fight was all in good fun, and must have been a great introduction for that year’s 125 West champ, Evan Laughridge, to the unique atmosphere of the Canadian Nationals. You can see him watching … and laughing… in the background.
