Hype: The highs and lows of Canadian MX

KYLE BEATON
It’s been quite the winter for Clearbrook/Yamaha Canada’s Kyle Beaton. After winning both the Lites and Open Championships in the Toyota Yamaha Nex-Trax Arenacross series, Beaton headed south to chase his dream of racing AMA Supercross. In his second attempt, Beaton qualified for the night show and the main. He has bettered his results each week, finishing 20th and 19th. Will his best finish yet be this weekend at his final round in San Diego?

LETHBRIDGE AX
The crew in Southern Alberta sure loves motocross! From the promoters to volunteers to local dealers, everyone in Lethbridge and the surrounding area puts a lot of effort and support into the Alberta Arenacross Championships. This year, it was first timer, Eric Nye, who was crowned the King of AX. He went 4 for 4 in the pro classes. We can’t wait to go back in 2009!

FACTORY WOMEN
The CMRC National Women’s series is looking solid again for 2008. The ’07 season featured some great racing, and saw Canadian woman garner more industry support than ever. For 08, that support has grown even more, with Heidi Cooke joining Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki, Jolene Van Vugt inking a deal with Blackfoot Motorsports, and Missy Hackett pitting out of the Suzuki OTSFF Rockstar semi.

CASTROL RACEWAY
When it was announced that Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway was to replace the scenic Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary on this year’s Monster Energy Motocross National schedule, folks didn’t know what to think … and they still don’t. The crew at Castrol is enthusiastic and very experienced in promoting large-scale events. If they can bring the track up to the national caliber they have planned, it could be a great move for the series.

DUSTY KLATT
The Campbell River crusher can’t buy a break. After his broken hand at Walton, Dusty finally got the 450 ride he’s been waiting for, only to get re-injured in the weeks leading up to Anaheim 1. Klatt hopes to make his SX return in Houston. Hopefully he can put in some good rides in the increasingly depleted Supercross class. Canadians will be eager to have one of their own in the premiere class to cheer for, and this arrow is sure to be pointed skywards shortly ...
