Imagine fighting your way through a forty-man pack, on one of the deepest, most demanding sand tracks the Canadian series has to offer, during one of the hottest and most humid days of the entire summer. With only one lap remaining, the win is within your reach, you round another sandy corner, putting you that much closer to the checkers and then … your bike quits. There is nothing you can do but sit on the infield and watch second place blow by, taking the win that was meant to be yours. That’s what happened to Jean-Sébastien Roy about forty minutes before this photo was taken. I went by the Blackfoot rig to see how the team was dealing with an undeniably tough moto. This is where I found the five-time Canadian champ, not yet out of his gear, signing autographs and visiting with his fans. It was worth a photo in my eyes.
