The fight for the MX2 East title kicked off with one of the most epic battles of the entire series. KTM’s Michael Willard (11) held off the charge of Simon Homans Racing teammates Eric Sorby (934) and Jacob Saylor (198). As the moto waged on, Sorby kept the pressure on Willard, touching tires on the last lap. Known for his aggressive tactics on the track, Sorby kept it clean, giving the Canadian fans what would be the most exciting MX2 moto of the series. The battle was short-lived though; Sorby was deemed ineligible for the MX2 class after it was discovered he'd previously earned a top 30 U.S. number. He never returned to Canada to race the remaining rounds, and Willard clinched his second MX2 East title.
