The Mark 2 Pivot Pegz

By Danny Brault

The Product: Mark 2 Pivot Pegz

The Weapon: 2007 KTM 450 SXF (Available for most makes and models.)

Online: www.pivotpegz.net

Cost: $149 USD

What they are: Spring loaded footpegs that move to-and-fro.

What stands out: Other than their ability to pivot, the Mark 2 Pivot Pegz are precision built using aerospace-grade stainless steel, are CNC machined, double heat treated, and electro-polished for a mirror finish. Pivot Pegz stand behind their product with a lifetime warranty.

First Impression:

After installing the Pivot Pegz, which takes less than five minutes, I sat on the bike in my running shoes. They definitely felt different and for a moment, I thought of putting them back in the box. But I figured that with the additional support of my MX boots, the sensation wouldn’t be as weird.

I was correct. When fully geared up, the pegs didn’t feel so strange. In fact, after my first ride using the Pivot Pegz, I forgot I had them on! I’m not sure if that was a good or bad. My second ride out, I paid more attention to the position of my feet on the pegs. Areas of the track where I really noticed the Pivot Pegz working were in flat corners without a rut or berm, through whoops and down rough straightaways.

Over flat corners, the Pivot Pegz assist in weighting the outside peg because you can push your outside foot and weight downward while maintaining constant contact with the footpeg. The same goes for whoops or chopped out straights; when you’re leaning back, the pegs act like a platform and stay with your feet. I had concerns that they would feel awkward riding through braking bumps or going up jump faces, but I have yet to feel any discomfort.

Whether you're leaning back through the whoops or weighting the outside peg, Pivot Pegz move with you.

Verdict:

I will admit that pivoting footpegs sound gimmicky, but they do have a practical purpose. Through corners, whoops, where ever you are on the track, Pivot Pegz maintain constant contact with your feet, giving you a more synchronized feeling on your bike. They may even save your boots, since your feet will remain flatter on the pegs.
