The season opener was a mudder…yep…if you don’t like the weather in BC wait five minutes right? Well not Sunday, there was rain, rain and more rain with the occasional brightening of the sky accompanied by rain. Despite the fact that mud races often wreak havoc with the expected results, Blackfoot Honda’s defending champs JSR and Dusty Klatt both swept their respective classes and each won both motos with impressive leads

Behind Klatt and Roy, the results were all over the board. It’s going to be a great season in both classes with talent stretching well beyond the top ten.

In the MX2 class, Klatt went 1-1 for the overall. Yamaha Canada’s Kyle Beaton used his familiarity with the Mission track and the Mission mud to earn 2-2 finishes. Team Faith’s Kevin Johnson picked up a third place finish in the first moto while Richmond Kawasaki’s Colton Facciotti completed an all-BC podium in the second moto.

In the MX1 class, JSR used his experience and confidence to move his way to the front of the pack in both motos, taking the overall with 1-1 finishes. In the first moto, Yamaha Canada’s Doug DeHaan got a great start and led the moto for several laps before the champ made the pass. DeHaan stayed smooth, not an easy feat in Sunday’s mud, and held off Craig Decker for second place. Decker picked up third.

In the second MX1 moto, JSR once again worked his way into the lead after OTSFF Suzuki’s Gavin Gracyk went down while running up front. OTSFF’s Keith Johnson finished in a solid second while Yamaha-backed Simon Homans rode to a career best finish of third place. The Mission mud not only wreaked havoc with the riders, it also wreaked havoc with the CMRC’s new transponder system. Official overall results were unavailable.
