OCTOBER 2, 2006
By Allison Kennedy
Another 50,000 plus crowd packed the
Olympic Stadium for the 29th Annual Montreal Supercross. The huge crowd
showed their appreciation for Quebecer's Simon Homans, who picked up a
third in the MX2 class, Marco Dube, who finished 8th in the MX1 final
and fifth in the MX2 class and freestyler Benoit Milot, who squared off
with Ronnie Renner. Five-time Canadian champ Jean-Sebastien Roy
was sorely missed. Roy suffered a string of injuries getting ready for
the SX and was forced to sit on the sidelines. He made it to Saturday's
race, where he was given a heroes welcome during the opening
ceremonies. With Roy on the sidelines, his Blackfoot teammate and newly
crowned Canadian champ Dusty Klatt stole the show. Klatt looked like he
was on a track for a possible sweep in both classes, until he crashed
leading the MX2 final, giving Darcy Lange the lead. Lange rode a solid
moto, holding off Colton Facciotti for the win. In the MX1 final, Klatt
got around last year's Montreal champ, Jason Thomas, after Thomas
grabbed the holeshot. Klatt pulled off an impressive victory, finishing
15 seconds ahead of Thomas and third place finisher Jeff Dement.
