Racer X Canada Tested: No Fear Gear

It’s funny that No Fear, the company who used to produce those t-shirts with cheesy, intimidating quotes on the back, is now a leader in motocross gear. Most gear companies produce high and low-end lines of gear, and usually a consumer can tell the difference between the two: price and quality. But that’s not the case with No Fear’s Spectrum pant. Even though the price is lower, the quality is top notch.

With a style very similar to the premiere Elektron pant, the Spectrum features contoured panels for better fit, Kevlar knee protection, four-way spandex in the saddle and crotch for flexibility, full-length mesh liner, and air-mesh panels at the waist for ventilation. The Spectrum fits well with plenty of room for knee braces and the cuffs slide on and off easily when changing.

Complimenting the Spectrum pant is the Special 73 jersey. Made from 100 percent polyester, the Special 73 jersey features mesh-vents across the top of the chest and underarms for those hot and humid days. The jersey also features three-colour foil logos and silicon gripper material on the bottom back to keep the jersey tucked in. On the track, the Special 73 feels super-light, and fits so well it actually makes you feel faster! (Okay, maybe that was just the breeze through the vented panels.)

Brand new for 2006 is the No Fear Combat glove. At first glance the Combat doesn’t look overly protective, but what the Combat lacks in protection, it makes up for in fit and comfort. Designed with lightweight mesh over the top of the gloves to keep your hands cool and a perforated lightweight palm construction, the glove is ready for hand to throttle combat. Along with the No Fear gear, we tried out the new Momentum R helmet from Zox. It features triple front air intakes, a fiberglass composite shell, removable/washable liner and is Snell and DOT approved. Like the Spectrum pant, the Momentum R features quality for a low price: it's only $169.99.
