MX West Spring Series Round Five
Stead, Nevada; April 2, 2006

It had been awhile since Jimmy Nelson (884) and Nathan Tiearney (39)--two of northern Nevada’s best Pros--had been on the same track locally. But at Stead, the duo again took to the 125cc Pro gate to show all their old friends the fast way around the circuit.

Nelson, who has been busy lately racing the west-coast Supercross Lites swing, had the day’s best results of the two, topping the 125cc, 250cc and Dash-for-Cash events. But Tiearney, who was racing his first race after a nine-month hiatus for two broken ankles suffered in the Canadian nationals, showed everyone that he still has his old style and speed, keeping Nelson honest with a solid second in the 125cc contest.

Nelson’s biggest challenge of the day came in the Dash-for-Cash, in which he had to outrun Intermediate standout Aron Harvey for three laps to claim the win. Nelson, who was CRF250-mounted, withstood a charge from Harvey and his YZ450F throughout the two closing laps, taking the win by only a few bike-lengths. Nick Baugh put in a tenacious ride through the pack to claim third.

Harvey went on to dominate the Intermediate classes, claiming all four moto wins in the 125cc and 250cc races. Ryan Ferris also impressed in the Intermediate races, following Harvey for second in the 125cc and 250cc divisions, and taking a win of his own in the Schoolboy Division One class.

In mini action, Jesse Sanchez was in a class by himself in the 50cc and 65cc races. Mounted aboard a potent Cobra, Sanchez rode away from the 50cc Intermediate class, and then took his KTM 65 to the 65cc Junior and Open wins. Sanchez, whose riding style oozes aggression and enthusiasm, was the only three-class winner of the day.
