Dylan Langlois is a quick learner. In 2001, he raced a fall race at
Gopher Dunes, then raced a few events throughout 2002, but injuries
kept him from riding much. Thanks to his athletic gifts, however, he is
now a top southwestern Ontario after just two years of solid racing.
Despite being in the sport for only a few years, Langlois has already
built up a great love for MX and last year he gave back to racing by
creating the first ever video review of the Walton TransCan, called All
the Marbles. The DVD was a respectable first
time effort and even though he had a very small team—and shot the video
between races with a camcorder—it turned out not too bad and captured
the most memorable moments of the event. We caught up with Langlois
after he returned from Millsaps Training Facility to see what his plans
are for 2006.
RXC: I hear you were down at MTF two weeks ago. How long were you there for?
Dylan Langlois: I was down there riding for eight days; went from a Friday until the next Sunday.
Who went down to MTF with you?
My parents took me down, had a little vacation and left the trailer there. (Adam) Deakon was down there and (Ben) Schekenberger, so it was fun.
What was your impression of MTF?
I thought it was amazing. Just overall, I mean, Bryan Johnson and Colleen (Millsaps) are both awesome directors and I was expecting a lot, but I didn’t think I would learn as much as I did. Like, when I came back, all of my buddies noticed that I improved right away. Actually, the first day I got back, I have a little sand track behind my house and I was shocked at how much faster I was.
How do you like the new Yamahas?
I think they’re hugely improved. Especially the 450; it feels like a totally new bike. The suspension is way more balanced and I just have way more confidence on it then I did than last year.
How long have you been racing for?
I raced a fall race in 2001, then my Dad bought me a 125 for 2002, but I got hurt, like four times. I was riding the beginner class and was just being stupid, trying to jump everything.

Wow, that’s pretty impressive … seeing as how you turned intermediate last year.
Well, I have tracks at my house and just that and I just give it all I’ve got. I’ve played all kinds of sports: OFSAA track and field in high school, hockey, everything. So I gave it all up to pursue this and now it takes up all of my time.
You did pretty well in intermediate last year ….
Yeah, I surprised myself. I had no expectations going in. I kind of knew who the fast guys were going in and they were winning junior when I moved up, so I was like, whatever, we’ll see what happens. Then at Walton, getting a third in 250 Intermediate was just a huge shock for me.
Dylan, you also put together the Walton TransCan DVD, All the Marbles, how did you decide to do that project?
It was an idea I had for awhile. Actually, I’ve been putting together a video every year since ’03, called Dirt Diggers. It was all the film I had of me and all of my buddies racing and riding together from each year and we would have a party every year and release the video. It’s just a great souvanier for all of us. Then I started thinking, maybe I should do something for the public and maybe there is a bit of money to be made? And it would be a great souvnoir for Walton, I mean, who wouldn’t want a DVD from Walton? I always wanted one and it just got me thinking, why not do it? Then I started talking to Chris Lee in the spring last year, and I had sent my Dirt Diggers video to Brett Lee and he showed it to Chris. So it just all came together.
Will you be putting together another DVD this year at Walton?
That’s the game plan. The whole tricky part of this whole year is the way my schooling is set up. I’m in my third year of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Windsor right now and this summer is a study term for me. I’m working right now and I will be in school from May until August and the really fun part of the whole deal is exam week is during Walton. I’ve been talking to the dean, trying to work something out, because I wouldn’t miss Walton for the world.

What’s your plan when school finishes up?
Ideally, for my final work term next fall, I would like to get on somewhere in California. I’m really trying to get on with Dr. D. That’s where I want to be; if I do engineering, what better to do than engineering in MX.
So you’re riding intermediate again this year?
Yep. The game plan is to … I want to win this year, basically. I don’t know what the exact plan is yet, because I want to qualify for Loretta Lynn’s and I will be going for the northeast region and there is another conflict there—the regional qualifier is the same weekend as the Walton provincial, which is also an ANQ. So we’ll just have to see how things go. So I want to do the provincials and as many east coast national as I can.
Well, good luck this year, Dylan.
Thanks.
