FEBRUARY 19, 2006
Well, everything's gone well so far for our Canadians boys at St. Louis for Round 7 of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series and Round 1 of the East Lites Series, as each one has qualified for the night show.
Lites class
Day qualifier #1:
Blackfoot Honda Fox Racing's Dusty Klatt came out of the first turn in fifth position, then on the second lap he made a pass to move into fourth behind Richmond Racing Team Green's Kyle Chisholm and stayed there until the finish. Klatt has been running 58 second lap times, and race manager Joe Skidd says he is just three or four seconds off the fastest lap.
Day qualifier #2:
Klatt's teammate, Cooke, suffered a poor start and was outside the top 10 for the first lap. Fortunately, Cooke worked his way up to finish seventh. (They only take the top eight.) He passed Stephane Roncada on the first lap.
Day qualifier #3:
Brady Sheren looked fast and smooth in practice, but he couldn't put it together in his qualifier and was forced to run the consolation race. He went on to finish second to take the final qualifying spot to move on to the night program.
Supercross class
Day qualifier #1:
OTSFF Suzuki rider Ryan Lockhart suffered a bad start in his qualifier and, like Sheren, was forced to race the consolation race. Then in the consolation race, Lockhart pulled the holeshot before being passed by Keith R. Johnson (64). On the second lap he was passed by Scott Howe (416) but regained the position with an aggressive block pass to take the final qualifying position.
Day qualifier #2:
Butler Brothers Honda's Doug DeHaan took a hard spill in practice, which resulted in a broken helmet peak. Luckily, DeHaan wasn't injured. After coming out of the first corner in third, DeHaan battled with Robbie Reynard and Mike Brown (still riding a RM250 two-stroke) before crossing the line in fifth ahead of Brian Mason.
Be sure to check back later tonight with an update from the Canucks' action in the night show.
