The 2006 Amp’d AMA Mobile Supercross Series didn’t start out too well for Richmond Racing Kawasaki’s Colton Facciotti, as he failed to qualify for the first three rounds. But after signing up with a new mechanic, Steve Simms, Facciotti went on to make the main events in the last three rounds, his best finish being a 14th two weekends ago in Anaheim. Then last weekend, Facciotti rode in the top-10 before finishing 15th in the main event. We caught up with him while he made his way back home to BC.

RXC: Hey Colt, what are you up to?

Colton Facciotti: I’m just on my way back to BC.

Are you by yourself?

Nope, I’m with my mechanic, Steve [Simms].

Oh yeah, so how did Steve work out for you in the last few races?

Pretty good [laughs]. I had a little bit better luck, anyways, with him.

We were joking about that in the office, the first race he started working with you, you qualified. So are you going to keep him around a little longer?

Yeah, I think so, for sure. He’s a good guy.

So tell us about how San Diego went for you.

It was probably my best weekend, so far, anyways. I made it out of the first qualifier, so that was kind of nice and I didn’t have to go to the last chance; it helped save me a little bit of energy. In the main, I got a good start and was top-10 or something. Then I just kind of fell apart in the beginning of the race and a few guys passed me. I don’t know what happened to me; I must have been riding nervous or something. But once they past me, I started picking it up again and picked a couple of guys off, so it was good.

The first three rounds didn’t go so well for you, but then you qualified for the last three. What’s been clicking for you, Colton?

Well, I’ve been getting better starts, staying up and just riding a little bit better. I think with every race, I get a little bit more confident, riding with those faster guys.

So what’s your plan now? Will you come back down for the final two western rounds in Seattle and Texas?

I’m not too sure yet. I know I might go back to California to train for the outdoors, because the next two west rounds aren’t for a little while. I’m pretty sure I’m going to do Seattle, but I’m not sure about Texas; it’s just so far away.

So how do feel things have gone for you in your first supercross series?

Pretty good; I was pretty happy with it, anyway. I was just improving a little bit every weekend, so that was my goal. I got lots of experience.

What’s been the response like from Richmond, and your family and everybody?

Everybody’s been pretty stoked for me.

Great.Thanks, Colt.

No problem, talk to you later.
