Coming into the pro ranks under the radar, BC rider Brock Hoyer began
turning heads this winter when he competed in the western rounds of the
Canadian Arenacross series and turned in several top 5 finishes.
Despite being injured at the final round in Nanaimo, he made his way to
the Vancouver Supercross and qualified, going on to finish 18th. To top
it all off he wrapped up the AX2 title two weeks ago at the West
Coast Arenacross series finale in Chilliwack, a series that at one
point or another featured riders such as Colton Facciotti, Ryan
Lockhart, Kyle Beaton, Brady Sheren, Dennis Jonon and Dylan Lord.
We caught up with Hoyer to find out his plans for 2006.
The biggest race of Hoyer’s career. Brock en-route to
an 18th place finish at the Vancouver SX.
RXC: Brock, how did you get into racing?
My uncle, Galvin Hoyer got me into racing. He’s an old mx and cross-country racer and I always looked up to him.
When was your first race?
It was in 2000 on a YZ80. The race was in Quesnel, BC and I got third in the 80cc 13-16 class.
You kind of flew under the radar coming up through the amateur ranks, what were your best results as an am?
I got second in the BC provincials and won the west coast amateur four
stroke national at Raymond in 2004 in the intermediate class. I also
placed 25th at the Mission and Nanaimo nationals that year.
Did you race any Nationals in 2005?
Nope, I missed them because of graduation.
You graduated from high school this year, that’s rare in this day and age of home schooled racers.
Yeah, it is. I’ve always heard of racers in home school, it would have
made things a lot easier but I wanted to finish school with my friend.
My friend gave me confidence.

finish
at the West Coast Arenacross in Chilliwack BC on Feb 11.
You turned a lot of heads this winter with several top five finishes in
the Canadian Arenacross series, that must have given you some
confidence considering the caliber of riders that were competing.
Yeah, for sure it did. I know what I have to do for the summer now, it’s nice having some experience underneath me now.
You raced the World Supercross round at Vancouver in December, how did that go for you?
Wow, that was the coolest race ever. I was so pumped to be there, even
more pumped when I made the main. That gave me some good confidence for
sure.
So what are your plans for the summer? Will you be racing the nationals this year?
Yeah, I’m racing the entire MX2 West series.
Now with a winter of indoor racing under your belt at the pro level, what are your goals for nationals?
Same as the AX series, just go out and give it all I’ve got every race. I’d like to finish in the top 10 in the west.
What kind of preparation are you doing now till the Nationals start?
I’ve been going to the gym everyday, I’ll be riding everyday once the
snow’s gone and just eating healthy. Just riding as much as possible,
but sometimes work gets in the way.
Where do you work, Brock?
I work full time at RTR Performance in Kamloops, I’m a technician there.
Wow, I bet that makes you one of the few pros with a well-maintained practice bike.
Ha-ha, yeah. I’m not allowed to work on my bike during shop hours but it’s still well maintained.
Ok Brock, who do you want to thank?
I’d like to thank my mom, Debbie Hoyer, because if it wasn’t for her I
wouldn’t be here. We went to all the races together and sometimes had
to sleep in the truck because we didn’t have enough money for a hotel
room. She stuck with me through all the hard times and I can’t thank
her enough. I’d like to thank the entire Hoyer family and my brother
Brody Godin for his support too. And of course my sponsors, RTR
Performance, RMR Suspension and Certified Prosthetics.
Thanks a lot Brock, good luck this year.
