DECEMBER 1, 2005
The January issue of Racer X Illustrated and Racer X Canada was mailed to subscribers two weeks ago and will arrive on newsstands this week. Once again, our designers, sales staff, writers, photographers and contributors did an amazing job on the issue.
Racer X Canada would also like to extend a big welcome to Jay Moore, our new advertising representative. Moore is from a small town called Munster, located just minutes from Ottawa and the Sand Del Lee race track. He is a quick intermediate rider and should give assistant editor Danny Brault a run for his money in next year’s provincials. He’s already one up on Brault as he qualified for the Moncton National this summer (just ask him, he loves to gloat!) Moore has also been stealing some thunder from Dailey in the ad department but a little healthy competition elevates everyone's game, right?
It was tough—as always—selecting a cover shot, but after Team Canada’s second consecutive entry in the MXdN and Blair Morgan’s leadership of the team, we agreed he would be the timely candidate. And with the long list of racing accomplishments in the dirt and snow, Morgan is deserving of a cover simply for his contribution to our sport in Canada and abroad. Even though Morgan—and the entire team—could have had better results on more reliable machinery, they still put forth a great effort and plans are already being made to make sure next year’s MXdN team has more financial support. The cover shot is striking and the sea of spectators that fills the cover displays the importance of this event and reiterates Canada's duty to support and participate.
Similar to our last issue, we tried to come up with stories that will enhance what is seen at the track.
New contributor Aaron Wendland made the trek to Ernee, France and came away with a terrific account of the trials and tribulations Team Canada went through at the 2005 Motocross des Nations. It’s a must read! Roddy MacLeod and Simon Cudby provided spectacular photos that captured the visual awe of the event.
Instead of a nationals recap, Allison Kennedy and Danny Brault looked at the Canadian National series from a different perspective. Going track by track, we took a look at each track to determine what went right (and wrong) and what the key ingredients are for the perfect Canadian national track. Team managers, riders, promoters and CMRC’s Mark Stallybrass give their views on Canadian Battlegrounds.
Since the Montreal Supercross is a special, one-off event, we opted to look at the event a little differently this year. Great racing is always guaranteed at Olympic Stadium, but there is more to the event than a 30 second board and a checkered flag.
