(press release)
DOUBLE JUMPING ON A YELLOW HAS BEEN REINSTATED FOR THE PRO NATIONAL SERIES ONLY.
The rule for the Pro National Series will now read:
3. YELLOW - caution. For Pro Nationals only double jumping will be
permitted when a yellow flag is displayed. Competitors must ride with
caution until they have passed the incident that caused the flag. While
the yellow flag is displayed, passing another rider will result in a 5
position penalty. Contact with emergency personnel will result in
immediate disqualification from the event.
Although CMRC stands behind each and every penalty imposed on Pro
riders that were docked five positions for jumping while the yellow
flag was displayed at the past three rounds of the 2007 Monster Energy
Motocross Nationals, it has been determined that the penalty is too
harsh for the offence committed as the riders never failed to ride with
caution, plus the judgment call of if and how long the yellow flag
should be displayed was left to safety marshals.
As stated, riders must continue to ride with caution while the yellow
flag is displayed. The red cross flag rule currently printed in the
2007 rulebook will stand as is written. If a rider double jumps while
the red cross flag is displayed, regardless if the flag is waving or
held, they will be penalized 10 positions.
